The State of West Bengal with a variety of forest types is very rich in terms of Wildlife. North Bengal flood plains harbor wild animals like Tiger, Common Leopard , Clouded Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, Himalayan Black Bear, Sloth Bear,Gaur, Sambar, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer, Wild Boar, Rhesus Monkey, Common Languor, different types of small Cats and Civets, Crocodile, Gharail, Jungle Fowls and a large number of Birds & Medicinal Plants.Siliguri is second most populous city after Kolkata in West Bengal and is situated at the entrance of North Bengal (@10km from Park).The whole park concept is the brain child of Dr B R Sharma, the then Memner Secretary, WBZA & Sri U K Bhattacherjee, AO.
Mixed Herbivore Safari & Tiger Safari
North Bengal Wild Animals Park (Bengal Safari), Siliguri is spread in an area of 297 hectares. The Park is developed in its natural habitat of Sal & its associated species. The Park presently having 2 nos. large safaris i.e. Mixed Herbivore Safari (91 ha), Tiger Safari (20 ha). The visitors shall be taken to these safaris in specially designed vehicles.Tiger Safari inaugurared by Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal on 22.1.2017. Mixed Herbivore Safari is having Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Sambar, One Hrned Rhinoceros, Peacock, Red Jungle Fowl, Black Ibis, Kingfisher,Emerald Dove,Drongo,Hornbill and other birds live in natural condition.Total Herbivore Safari Duration 45min. Tiger Safari is having one Tiger (Male- Shenasish, Female- Sheela) brought from Nadankanan Zoological Park, Orissa. As the tiger yet to attain their adulthood, male and female released in the park alternatively to avoid fight.Tiger Safari duration 20 min.
